Making the Most of Your Weekend

It has been a crazy week, and you cannot wait for Friday. But stop, before you crash on the couch, here are some tips to get the most out of your weekend and face Monday morning rejuvenated.

Create a Plan It’s tempting to want to “do nothing.” But no one really can do nothing. Time tends to fill itself. If you’re not careful, it fills itself up with meaningless things, and come Sunday night leaves you wondering just what it was you did all weekend.  So, map out a plan — but do leave some room for spontaneity.

Include Exercise Physical exercise is like a reset button. Even a short brisk walk rejuvenates your body and makes you feel better about yourself. Besides, if you have been sitting at a desk all week, it’s a fun change of pace.

Schedule some downtime Take a moment time to sit and be still.  Our bodies function best when allowed to rest. The world is hopelessly full of distractions, so being intentional about this takes some discipline.

Make the most of wait-times Read a book while waiting in the soccer field parking lot for your kiddo. Listen to a TED talk while meal prepping. Don’t pass up the opportunity to fill those small moments with the purposeful things you’ve wanted to do all week.

Take a break from technology Turn off the laptop, iPad, tablet for a couple of hours. Put down your phone.  Ignore social media and the news. Technology has its benefits, but it is also a constant barrage of draining stimulation. Give yourself a break and unplug.

Get chores done early: If you have a project or chores calling your name, why not tackle them first Saturday morning. Getting them done early in your weekend replaces the dread with a sense of accomplishment and lets you enjoy the rest of your time off.

Plan your Monday on Friday: Everyone knows the feeling of dismay when Sunday night rolls around. The looming, early morning alarm on Monday morning is a foreboding burden. But taking the time on Friday to plan out your upcoming work week spares you from having to think about it until, well, Monday morning.

Plan an adventure: Discover a new hiking trail. Take a back road to town. Visit somewhere you have never gone. Take a road trip. Visit a friend.

Tackle a project: We all have those jobs that never get done. If it is too big for one weekend, break it into steps and spread it out over a month.
